Former Egyptian Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Sami Anan, who supported the military coup carried out by current President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi in Egypt, has reportedly joined in an opposition WhatsApp group, Arab news site Moheet reported yesterday.

In an Egyptian live show broadcasted on YouTube, a presenter for the site said that he would reveal a “big surprise” to his viewers.

The presenter claimed that he had information that Anan is included in a WhatsApp group including hundreds of opposition members who are abroad, most of them Muslim Brotherhood members and allies.

He noted that the group aimed to oppose the Egyptian regime and called for everyone from the founders to invite public figures they know to the group.

In addition, the presenter said that he noted a name of someone called Sami, the first name of the former military chief, who had remained silent for a while and later left the group.

One of the group members, the presenter said, checked the number via True Caller and found that it belonged to Sami Anan.
