Libyan official reveals UAE’s major support to Haftar

President of the Libyan House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, revealed the great support provided by the UAE to Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, a video circulating on social media has shown.

Saleh said: “The army started with 300 cars we took from someone we knew, since we had no money. Each car cost $47,000 and these cars were part of the beginning of Operation Karama [led by Khalifa Haftar].”

We went to the UAE to ask for help. The Libyans must remind and tell their children that the UAE stood with us, as brothers. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed said to us, verbatim, ‘What’s ours is yours’, meaning our money is yours and they gave us everything we needed, despite the pressure on them. A video being widely circulated by activists on social media since Tuesday shows.

Aguila Saleh is an ally of Haftar, who is leading Operation Karama against his rivals in Tripoli – egwho are backed by the UN – and other Libyan cities with support from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.
