Jordan is the latest country to ban the screening of the newly released Hollywood film, Wonder Woman, over Israeli actress Gal Gadot’s leading role.

Wonder Woman was first banned in Lebanon with Tunisia following suit this week over Gadot’s role in the film following her overt support of the Israeli army.

Mohammad Quteishat, director of Jordan’s Media Commission, said the commission was reviewing the film to see if it complied with the Arab country’s standards and legislation, according to Jordanian Petra News Agency.

Cinemas that screen the film before the commission approves it will be closed, as this would be considered a violation of the law.

Jordan is one of two Arab neighbours with whom Israel has diplomatic relations however a number of campaigns have been launched calling for the kingdom to boycott the film.

Mohammad Ali, a member of an online campaign in Jordan to boycott the movie, told China’s Xinhua news service: “If we watch the movie, this means we will support this Israeli actor…I am against this movie and I call for banning it in Jordan as well as in the rest of the Arab world.”
