PA commits 176 attacks on journalists

The Palestinian Authority and other groups carried out 176 violations against journalists since the start of this year, a report by the Committee for the Support of Journalists revealed yesterday.

They include the arrest of 40 journalists, seven cases in which the detention of the media personnel was extended, ten cases of assault and battery and 23 cases of raids and confiscation of equipment.

The report highlighted 10 cases in which journalists were prohibited from covering an event or had their work obstruction.

This was in addition to 68 cases where media organisations were closed, had their websites blocked or their bank accounts frozen or closed.

While the violations against journalists in their political detention reached 18 cases.
