Egypt is to increase the price of tickets for the Cairo Metro by 100 per cent in 2018, the Transport Minister, Hisham Arafat, revealed yesterday.

According to AlMasry Alyoum newspaper, the ticket prices will range from two to four Egyptian pounds ($0.11-$0.22) depending on the number of stations travelled.

Ticket prices were increased by 100 per cent in March, rising from one Egyptian pound ($0.06) to two.

The announcement comes days after the government of Prime Minister, Sherif Ismail, raised the price of all petroleum materials as well as electricity and a number of services.
