A female Palestinian prisoner was strip searched by Israeli soldiers who also took pictures of her on their mobile phones, Amnesty International said in a statement yesterday.

Khitam Sa’afeen said:

The Israeli army raided my house at 2:30am on 2nd July then took me to my room and searched me. On our way to Ofer prison, they took photos of me with their own cameras and mobile phones. One of the soldiers said that he will post my photos on Facebook.

Sa’afeen added that once she arrived at Ofer prison, she was placed in a cage and searched while naked and handcuffed.

Amnesty condemned the treatment and demanded an investigation into the abuses.

It said it was following up on the developments in the cases of senior figure in the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), Khalida Jarrar, and Sa’afeen and fight for their release.

The two women were arrested last week and taken from their homes in occupied Ramallah before being transferred to Israeli detention centres.
