Ex-Sudan president: Qatar siege has no justification

Former Sudanese President Abdel Rahman Swar Al-Dahab expressed his regret over the ongoing embargo on Qatar which he considered a sign of the Arab nations’ continuous weakness.

In an interview, Al-Dahab told Quds Press condemned the Gulf’s efforts to label Hamas a “terrorist” organisation, saying:

whoever said that Hamas is a terrorist movement is completely wrong, Hamas is a national liberation movement supported by all the free people of the world.

He also mentioned Qatar’s support for Palestine and was reminiscent of the historic visit that the former Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani paid to the Gaza Strip accompanied by Sheikha Moza Bint Nasser Al-Missned and of the efforts exerted by Qatar to support Gaza against the siege.

Al-Dahab pointed out that all the accusations made by the countries who have put in a place a siege on Qatar does not stand. “All what Qatar has been accused of has been dropped, after Doha declared itself fully acquitted of it. I think that Qatar does not deserve the embargo in the first place.”

“We in Sudan regard the State of Qatar as one of the friendliest countries for Sudan and its people. We have some important projects together. Qatar has spent huge sums of money to support peace in Darfur. Through his efforts, President Al-Bashir supports the Kuwaiti mediation in order to end the siege on Qatar.”

He went on to criticise the “incomprehensible and unjustified silence” from the Arab League and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation during the Gulf crisis.

On 5 June, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt announced that they had severed diplomatic ties with Qatar and closed their air and sea ports to the small Gulf state accusing it of “supporting terrorism”. Charges Doha denies.

Kuwait has been leading mediation efforts since the crisis broke out.
