Iraq sentences 15 Turkish women to death for joining Daesh

February 26, 2018 at 3:07 pm

The Iraqi Criminal Court yesterday sentenced 15 Turkish women to death for belonging to Daesh.

“The verdict came after the defendants confessed to belonging to the Islamic State [Daesh],” AFP quoted a judicial source as saying.

The source added that another Turkish woman was sentenced to life imprisonment.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Criminal Court in Baghdad said in a statement last week that the court had sentenced a Turkish woman to death by hanging on charges of joining Daesh, noting that ten other women of different nationalities were sentenced to life imprisonment.

Earlier this month, the Iraqi authorities announced the extradition of one of Daesh’s most prominent leaders after he was arrested in Turkey in a joint operation between Iraqi, Turkish and American intelligence services.
