Address by Professor John Duggard at MEMO’s Palestine, ‘Britain and the Balfour Declaration‘ conference held in London on October 7, 2017.

John Dugard SC is a judge ad hoc of the International Court of Justice. He has led two international fact-finding missions in to the conflict in Palestine (2001,2009) and from 2001 to 2008 he was Special Rapporteur of the Human Rights Council on the Human Rights Situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. He is professor emeritus in law of the Universities of the Witwatersrand and Leiden. From 1995 to 1997 he was Director of the Lauterpacht Research Centre for International Law, Cambridge.

Palestine and international law – from Balfour to settlements

This session examines the legal aspects of the Declaration, in addition to perspectives on the Mandate, the UN Partition Plan, international law issues pertaining to the settlements and Israel’s flouting of UN resolutions.
