Palestine Prisoner Centre for Studies (PPCS) said yesterday that 85 per cent of Palestinians who are being held under administrative detention in Israeli jails are former prisoners, Safa news agency reported.

According to the PPCS, these prisoners were rearrested and the Israeli occupation could not indict them so it placed  them under administrative detention.

Administrative Detention

It is the arrest and detention of individuals by the state without charge or trial. It is applicable on a renewable six-month term.

The Spokesman of the PPCS Riyad Al-Ashqar said that the number of Palestinians who are being held under administrative detention inside the Israeli jails is increasing steadily.

There are new administrative detention orders almost every week, he said, noting that there are currently more than 450 administrative prisoners inside Israeli jails, including two children, two women and three MPs.

Most of them, Al-Ashqar added, have had their administrative detention orders renewed several times, stating that some of them had spent “many years” in prison. Some were also rearrested after their release and placed under administrative detention once again without access to legal representatives.
