The Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Regional Government have decided to conduct a comprehensive demographic survey in 2020 in order to reach a more equitable distribution of wealth.
The agreement came during a meeting attended by the Secretary-General of the Iraqi Council of Ministers, Ali Alaq, Minister of Planning in Iraqi Kurdistan, Ali Al-Sindi, and representatives of a number of donor countries held in Baghdad.
The Secretariat said in a statement that the survey will be conducted using modern techniques and the results will be used for better distribution of public resources and services such as education and health.
He pointed out that Iraq has not conducted a real census since 1987.
For his part, Al-Sindi said there is a clear political consensus between the federal and provincial governments on the importance of conducting the survey, whose indicators will contribute to setting development goals and evaluating changes in the country.
