An Iranian official said yesterday that the Islamic Republic refuses to negotiate over its ballistic missile program.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Bahram Qassemi, told the Iranian news agency IRNA that Iran’s missile program was “not negotiable”.

Qassemi explained that the Iranian missile program is designed to defend the country, adding that experiences of past decades have demonstrated the need to have the necessary capabilities to defend the country when needed in this troubled region.

He pointed out that the Iranian measures in the field of defence are natural, adding that each country has the right to use its capabilities when needed to defend itself.

“We have repeatedly stated that we decide our defence policies and we will not allow others to interfere in such issues, and we will not negotiate with others over the missile and defence program,” he added.
