Speaker of the Iranian Shura Council, Ali Larijani has described as “disgraceful” the normalisation of relations between some Arab countries and Israel.

Larijani made the remarks during a meeting with chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Emigration of the National Popular Assembly of Algeria, Abdelhamid Si Afif, in Tehran yesterday.

The Iranian official went on to describe the US’ proposed peace plan for the Middle East – dubbed the “deal of the century” – as a “fake American project”.

“The plan aims to limit the Palestinian issue to Gaza only and ignore the refugee issue and remove East Jerusalem from existence, which is a major betrayal,” he said.

“They want to give money to countries hosting the Palestinian refugees so they would forget their country, and started the normalisation project between Israel and Arab countries, which is disgraceful,” Larjani said, adding that the plan will not work because people are vigilant.
