Orthodox Christians mark 'Holy Fire' Easter ceremony in Jerusalem

Orthodox Christians gathered at the tomb of Jesus Christ in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem to mark the 'Holy Fire' Easter ceremony.

Holy Fire occurs on the day preceding Orthodox Easter, referred to as Holy Saturday. It has its origins in the belief that a miracle occurs at Jesus Christ’s tomb each year, where a blue light emanates from inside it and takes on the form of a flame, which is said to spontaneously light candles throughout the church.
