Hundreds of thousands of Iranians yesterday celebrated the 41st anniversary of the Islamic Revolution amid heightened tension with the United States.

Thousands of Iranians attended demonstrations in the capital, Tehran, and all major cities including Mashhad, Ahvaz and Kerman.

The participants held banners that read “Death to America” and “Death to Israel”.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani addressed the crowds in Azadi Square in Tehran; using the occasion to slam the United States.

Zainab Soleimani, daughter of the late commander of Iran’s elite Quds Force, Qasim Soleimani, has also addressed the crowd. Soleimani was assassinated last month by the United States shortly after arriving in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.
