Senior Hamas leaders left the Gaza Strip on Sunday for Cairo to attend “important” discussions with Egyptian officials related to the situation in occupied Palestine, the movement’s spokesperson Hazem Qasim said yesterday.

“The delegation will address core issues related to the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip, as well as Egypt’s role in easing the humanitarian crisis caused by the Israeli siege on the impoverished enclave,” explained Qasim.

He continued: “The movement’s officials will also discuss Egypt’s efforts to restructure the Palestinian political structures in the face of the [Trump] ‘deal of the century’, in addition to issues related to security efforts to maintain stability on the borders.”

Qasim concluded by pointing out that Hamas appreciates and values Egypt’s role in trying to protect Palestinian rights.
