Turkey’s Erdogan: ‘We aspire to restore unity with Egypt’

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has announced that his country seeks to restore its “historically rooted unity” with Egypt.

Erdogan issued this statement after performing Friday prayer in a mosque in Istanbul, where he touched on efforts to stabilise relations between Turkey and Egypt.

He affirmed: “We seek to restore historically rooted unity with the people of Egypt and to maintain it again.”

On the other hand, President Erdogan confirmed the independence of Turkey’s foreign policy and that it would not yield to any influences, stating: “Turkey is a proudly resilient country, not a country that others can determine its foreign policy.”

At the domestic level, Erdogan explained: “We want to formulate a new constitution that the people accept.”
