Palestinian Authority (PA) security services in the occupied West Bank have “kidnapped” activist Sheikh Khader Adnan as he was protesting against the detention of other activists who called for the prosecution of the murderers of Nizar Banat.

Adnan started a hunger strike as soon as he was detained, lawyer Muhannad Karaja from Lawyers for Justice told Safa news agency.

Karaja said that Adnan, from the city of Jenin, has previously spent 15 years in Israeli jails under administrative detention. He and all the other political detainees had been severely tortured and subjected to illegal measures, the lawyer added.

Adnan’s wife, Um Abdul Rahman, described his detention as a “kidnapping” and said that the PA security forces insulted her.

“My husband was not detained, but kidnapped,” she said. “This is bullying,” she added, noting that this has been happening to all the freed prisoners and other national figures, stressing those who are doing this must be held to account.

“What happened with my husband reminds me of what was happening to him when the Israeli Special Forces used to raid our house and kidnap him,” she said.

The security situation in the occupied West Bank has been deteriorating since the murder of activist Nizar Banat two months ago by the PA security services.

Activists have been calling for the PA to prosecute Banat’s murderers.
