Five Sudanese intelligence officers were killed yesterday in a raid targeting a cell linked to Daesh in the capital Khartoum.

Sudan’s General Intelligence Agency said in a statement that during the operation “11 multi-national terrorists were arrested, two officers and three non-commissioned officers were killed, and an officer was wounded.”

This came “after receiving information on the presence of a terrorist cell linked to Daesh,” the agency was quoted by Agence France Press (AFP) as saying. “Four foreign terrorists have managed to escape,” the statement added.

Another security source told Al-Sudani that “three officers, a captain, a lieutenant, and a non-commissioned officer, were killed in the city of Jabra, after raiding a house linked to Daesh.”

“The militants had opened fire at the security forces who were not adequately armed,” the source explained, adding that the security officers managed to arrest a number of members of the cell, while others fled.
