The head of the Hamas Political Bureau said on Wednesday that US President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett do not accept any political solution for the Palestinian issue. “Even,” added Ismail Haniyeh, “if it is a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders.”

Haniyeh made his comment during an interview with Turkish channel A Haber. Neither Biden nor Bennett, said the Hamas leader, will make any difference to the reality of the Israeli occupation. “The Israeli occupation government is going ahead with the policy of usurping lands and violating the rights of the Palestinians in the West Bank, Jerusalem and Gaza Strip.”

There will be no change in US policy towards Israel “due to their mutual interests,” he pointed out.

When asked about the peace agreements reached with Arab states, Haniyeh said that the Palestinians feel sorry about this rapprochement between the Israeli occupation and these countries. “Some of the Arab regimes believe that their existence is linked to US support, and the way to the US passes through Tel Aviv. However, this is not the reality.”

Six Arab countries now have normalised relations with Israel, despite the fact that it has no respect for human rights and continues with its violations against the Palestinians on a daily basis. However, Haniyeh explained, a “normalised” relationship with the Arab regimes does not mean that the Arab people are happy with Israel and its brutal military occupation.
