Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ramtane Lamamra, said yesterday that the time has come for Syria to return to the Arab League and called for non-intervention in its domestic affairs.

“Algeria stresses that time has come for Syria’s return to the Arab League without any external interference in its domestic affairs”, the Algerian Ennahar newspaper quoted Lamamra as saying, adding: “We are looking forward to the reunion.”

The diplomat stressed that his country had originally opposed freezing Syria’s membership in the Arab League.

Lamamra explained that his country will work to bring the Arab brothers closer at the upcoming Arab summit hosted by Algeria in March 2022.

Lamamra also welcomed the UAE foreign minister’s visit to Damascus and hoped it would contribute to overcoming obstacles between Syria and other Arab countries.

Syria was suspended from the Arab League over its failure to end the bloodshed caused by brutal government crackdowns on pro-democracy protests.
