Israel army, armed parties in Syria exchange fire

Israeli army tanks returned machine gun fire on an area in southern Syria where gunfire “was directed at an Israeli military drone” that was conducting “routine surveillance activity” above the occupied Golan Heights, the Times of Israel reported, quoting an Israeli Defence Forces statement.

The Israeli military drone completed its mission and landed safely without any damage,  the statement added.

This comes days after Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant warned against Iran’s growing military bases in the region, claiming the Iran Revolutionary Guard Corps are converting merchant ships into “floating terror bases”.

“Iran is conducting itself like a collection of criminal organisations and not like a modern state. The floating terror bases are an extension of Iran’s ongoing maritime terrorism, as seen in its actions in the Persian Gulf and Arabian Sea. Iran aims to expand its reach to the Indian Ocean, the Red Sea and even the shores of the Mediterranean,” the Times of Israel quoted Gallant as saying.
