UK’s Starmer says Israel has right to impose siege on Gaza

Israel has the right to cut power and water in Gaza, Labour leader Keir Starmer said in an interview today.

“I think Israel does have that right. Its an ongoing situation,” Starmer told LBC News.

“Obviously, everything should be done within international law, but I don’t want to step away from the sort of core principles that Israel has a right to defend herself.”

Cutting off electricity and water is a form of collective punishment and is in contravention of international rules of warfare.

The Labour Muslim Network has called on Starmer to “retract his comments on LBC, apologise to Palestinians.”
