The Israeli army has revised its estimate of the number of Al-Qassam Brigades fighters who carried out a surprise infiltration of Israeli towns around Gaza on 7 October.
“A revised assessment from the Southern Command indicates that on the morning of October 7, approximately 3,000 Hamas terrorists infiltrated Israel at various points, a figure significantly higher than the initially estimated 1,500 to 2,000,” reported the Israeli website, Yedioth Ahronoth.
These were armed men carrying weapons, not civilians, according to the Hebrew website.
During the first two days of the battle, according to Yedioth Ahronoth, the Israeli army reportedly killed nearly a thousand of those fighters and captured around 200.
A month after the outbreak of the war, the bodies of dozens of fighters are still scattered in the area surrounding the Gaza-Israel fence.
The Israeli army has stated that the process of removing these bodies will be completed in the coming days.
