The Israeli Supreme Court yesterday rejected the appeal of the Salem Abdel Ghani Gheith family against their eviction from their home in the Batn Al-Hawa neighbourhood of Silwan, southeast of occupied East Jerusalem.
In a joint statement, the Wadi Hilweh Information Centre – Jerusalem and the Batn Al-Hawa Neighbourhood Committee confirmed that the Supreme Court dismissed the appeal filed by the Gheith family, upholding the decision to evict them in favour of Israeli settlers, citing the “land ownership by Yemeni Jews.”
The centre and committee clarified that the Central Court met on 8 July to review the family’s appeal against the eviction order from the Magistrate’s Court. After several days, the Central Court rejected the appeal. As a result, the family decided to escalate the case to the Supreme Court, which has also ruled against them, affirming the eviction orders previously issued by both the magistrate’s and central courts.
Zuhair Rajabi, head of the Batn Al-Hawa Neighbourhood Committee, stated that the Gheith family has lived in their home since the 1970s. The house is currently home to ten people, including children.
