The Permanent Representative of Indonesia to the United Nations has said that his country will support the draft resolution submitted by Palestine to the UN General Assembly calling for an end to the Israeli occupation. Arrmanatha Nasir made his announcement during a speech during an emergency session of the General Assembly on the legal consequences of the Israeli actions in the occupied Palestinian territories.

“International law is the basis of a stable global community, and the International Court of Justice, which is the world’s court, has clearly proven that Israel’s occupation of Palestine is illegal,” said Nasir. He explained that the lack of action at the global level leads to the continuation of Israel’s occupation and the Palestinian people being subject to injustice and suffering.

“The General Assembly must act in accordance with the decision of the International Court of Justice, and the occupation must end,” insisted the ambassador. “Indonesia will wholeheartedly support the draft resolution submitted by Palestine.”

Stressing how important it is to apply the recommendations of the ICJ, Nasir added that, “All countries must recognise Palestine as a state, and the United Nations must support its full membership and Palestine’s right to self-determination.”

He pointed out that systematic apartheid, discrimination and injustice must end in Palestine, highlighting the importance of a political solution and a two-state solution.

Palestine submitted the draft resolution to the UN General Assembly on Tuesday after the additional rights it gained in May, calling on Israel to end its presence in the occupied Palestinian territories within 12 months.
