Iran reserves the right to respond in accordance with international law to the attack that injured its ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani, Tehran’s permanent representative to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, said yesterday.
In a letter submitted to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Iravani condemned in the strongest terms the “sabotage and terrorism” carried out by the “rogue Israeli regime” in Lebanon.
It stated that these actions violate international law and threaten peace and security.
The letter also stated that Western countries, especially the US, also bear responsibility for the criminal activities due to their support for the “regime”.
“Iran reserves the right to respond in accordance with international law to the attack that injured its ambassador to Lebanon.”
It called on the UN Secretary-General and the Security Council to condemn Israeli terrorist activities.
The letter stressed the need for the Security Council to strongly condemn Israel’s activities in the region, calling on it to take the necessary steps against the “terrorist regime.”
Earlier yesterday, 14 people were killed and 450 others were injured in a wave of explosions that hit two-way radios in several areas in Lebanon, according to a statement by the Ministry of Health.
The explosions came a day after similar explosions occurred in pagers, killing 12 people and injuring about 2,800 others, including 300 who were in a critical condition.
The Lebanese government and Hezbollah accuse Israel of carrying out the attack and threatened Tel Aviv with a “severe retaliation.”
The accusations were met with silence from officials in Tel Aviv, however Israel rarely claims attacks it carried out against its foes.
