Qatari Minister of State for International Cooperation, Lolwah Al-Khater, called out international inaction to stop Israel’s attacks on Gaza and said this inaction is what empowered the occupation state to begin targeting Lebanon.

During a meeting with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati in Beirut, Al-Khater reaffirmed Qatar’s “firm and steadfast position regarding Lebanon, its sovereignty, and its right to maintain its security and stability and the safety of its citizens.”

“The Israeli occupation forces would not have expanded the conflict outside of Gaza if the international community had taken a serious stand against what has happened there, and then we saw the conflict and aggression expand to the West Bank and now to our brotherly Lebanon,” she said.

Al-Khater stressed that the international community should take a serious stand for an immediate ceasefire.

“In terms of Qatar’s support for the Lebanese Republic, this support is longstanding and ongoing,” she said, explaining that 10 C-17 planes loaded with medical supplies, shelter materials and food will be sent to Lebanon this month.

Israel has mounted massive air strikes across Lebanon, in its biggest bombing campaign in the country in almost 20 years. More than 1.2 million people have been displaced as a result of the assault since 23 September.

Israel has killed at least 2,083 people in Lebanon since 7 October 2023 and injured 9,869, according to Lebanese authorities.
