As many as 12,800 Syrians, including 1,309 refugees, have returned to Syria from Jordan since the fall of the regime of deposed President Bashar Al-Assad, state-run Al-Mamlaka TV announced yesterday.

The channel quoted an unnamed interior ministry source as saying that more Syrians will probably return to their country in the coming days.

He pointed out that “Jordan supports the voluntary return of Syrians to their country.”

Jordan hosts about 1.3 million Syrians, nearly half of them registered as refugees, while the rest entered before the revolution in 2011, by virtue of lineage, marriage and trade.

On 8 December, Syrian factions took control of the capital, Damascus, and Al-Assad fled with his family to Russia, ending 61 years of Ba’ath Party rule and 53 years of Assad family rule.
