The Kuwaiti Public Prosecution yesterday ordered the detention of controversial TV host Fajr Al-Saeed for 21 days and referred her to the Central Prison for calling to normalise relations with the Israeli occupation.

Local media outlets reported that the Ministry of the Interior filed a complaint against Al-Saeed accusing her of harming national interests and violating Kuwait’s Unified Law for Boycotting Israel No. 21 of 1964, “which criminalises any dealings or calls for normalisation with the Zionist entity.”

Al-Saeed is scheduled to appear before a detention renewal judge in the coming days, to consider releasing her on bail until her trial.

In 2021, the Kuwaiti Parliament unanimously approved a bill prohibiting normalisation with the Israeli occupation.

According to Kuwaiti law, Israel is an enemy state, citizens are prohibited from concluding agreements or deals with bodies or persons residing in Israel or belonging to it by their nationality or working for it or in its interest.
