Palestinians being detained in Israel’s Megiddo Prison suffer food shortages and a lack of personal hygiene supplies, the Palestinian Commission of Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs reported today, according to the Palestinian Information Centre.
The commission’s lawyer, who visited the jail recently, said that Megiddo jailers refuse to provide the prisoners with painkillers or to take them to the prison’s infirmary.
A prisoner reported enduring a persistent skin rash due to poor ventilation, high moisture levels, and inadequate personal hygiene conditions in the jail.
The prisoner told the lawyer that the prison administration reduced the one-hour recreation time detainees are allowed to just half an hour, which is insufficient for all the detainees to shower.
The prisoner also said that the food served to the Megiddo prisoners is of poor quality and insufficient.
