German Chancellor Angela Merkel has denied that German chemicals exported to Syria were used by the ruling regime to manufacture poisonous gases.
Speaking to ARD, a German television channel, Merkel confirmed that chemicals were indeed exported from her country to Syria but they were only used for civilian purposes.
She affirmed that the German condition to export the chemicals was clear: not to use them except for civilian purposes.
According to the chancellor, no information has been revealed that connects the chemicals exported by her country to any military use in the field.
Meanwhile, Turkish news agency Anatolia reported Merkel also reiterating that there are investigations into the issue to make sure that the German chemicals were not used for military purposes.
