Russia to send cruiser into the Mediterranean

Russia’s Interfax news agency has quoted a military source as saying that the Russian navy is to send a missile-armed battle cruiser into the eastern Mediterranean Sea to take over naval patrols in the region. The move is significant as the United States prepares for a possible military attack on Syria.

According to Interfax, the anonymous source said that the ship is expected to reach the eastern coast of the Mediterranean within the next ten days. It will join other ships of the Russian regional naval unit already on station.
