Palestinian refugees from Syria accuse UNRWA of ignoring them

February 11, 2014 at 10:59 am

A group of Palestinian refugees who fled to Gaza from the conflict in Syria have held a demonstration in front of the UNRWA headquarters in the beleaguered territory. They accuse the UN agency of neglecting them and their suffering, alleging that it has not supported them nor offered them any help or job opportunities.

According to a spokesman for the 1,100 Palestinian “Syrian” refugees in Gaza, UNRWA did not even pay “one penny” towards rents. “We have only received false promises from UNRWA,” claimed Atef Al-Imawi.

He called upon UNRWA to offer financial and humanitarian assistance to the refugees as a matter of urgency. Without such support, they will be unable to meet their basic daily needs, he added.
