Likud Minister warns of worsening in Palestinian-Jewish relations inside Israel

February 20, 2014 at 3:30 pm

Against the backdrop of the adoption of the new “loyalty to Israel” law, the Israeli minister, Dan Meridor, has warned of an escalation in the crisis of relations between the Israeli state institutions and Palestinians citizens from the territories occupied in 1948.

In statements to Radio Israel on Monday morning (11.10.2010), the Likud Minister called on the Israeli government to draw lessons from the experience of Jews as a minority among other peoples of the world, and to treat 1948 Palestinians with openness.

Before the law was approved on Sunday (10.11.2010), Meridor was one of the three Likud ministers who opposed the draft amendment to the “Israeli citizenship” law. The new version of the law forces anyone who wishes to obtain Israeli citizenship to swear allegiance to Israel as a ”Jewish and democratic state.”
