Netanyahu may offer "security facilitation" in return for negotiations during settlement construction

February 20, 2014 at 3:30 pm

Israeli media reports say that the Israeli prime minister is considering an offer of “security facilitation” to the Palestinian Authority in return for a resumption of direct negotiations during “limited settlement activity”.

According to Radio Israel on 24th October, Benjamin Netanyahu plans to mention this proposal to US President Barack Obama during their meeting in Washington in two weeks time. Quite what “security facilitation” means wasn’t explained fully, although the Jerusalem Post claims that the Israeli government is planning to transfer the control of security in some West Bank areas from the Israeli Defence Forces to the Palestinian Authority’s security apparatus.
