Prisoner swap proposal to release Israeli spy

February 20, 2014 at 3:31 pm

Israel has submitted a proposal to the Egyptian government for a prisoner swap whereby the Zionist spy Ouda Tarabin would be released in exchange for a number of Egyptians held by the Israeli authorities.

According to Hebrew media sources, the proposal was made in a meeting between Israel’s Deputy Minister of Development of the Negev and the Galilee, Ayoub Kara, and the Egyptian consul in Eilat, Walid al-Sharif, on 17th November.

The sources said that the meeting addressed the issue of Tarabin, who has been in prison in Egypt for eleven years following his conviction for spying on behalf of the Israeli intelligence services. It was suggested by Mr. Kara that an unspecified number of Egyptians detained by Israel could be released in exchange for Tarabin. The consul apparently promised to take the proposal to the Egyptian government.

Kara and al-Sharif also discussed the “road barrier” project, which the Israeli government wants to establish along parts of the common border between the two countries. The sources claimed that the Egyptian consul expressed his support for this project.
