Mubarak sends congratulatory message to Peres on Israel's anniversary

The Egyptian President, Hosni Mubarak, has congratulated his Israeli counterpart, Shimon Peres, on the 62nd anniversary of the declaration of the state of Israel in Palestine.

On Tuesday morning, April 20th, the Hebrew Broadcasting Station announced that the Egyptian President had sent a congratulatory message to President Shimon Peres to mark the anniversary of the foundation of Israel. To the Palestinian people the occasion is remembered as the “Nakba” or Great Catastrophe.

Mubarak’s message called on both the Palestinians and Israelis to resume the Middle East peace process, which would “provide room for an independent Palestinian state along with its Israeli counterpart.”
