Egypt’s Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab decided yesterday to set up a committee to implement a court decision to seize assets of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party and add them to the state’s treasury, the Anadolu news agency reported.
According to a statement by the prime minister’s office, the committee will consist of the Central Bank’s Governor, the ministers of interior, justice, finance, and transitional justice, as well as the Prosecutor General.
The committee will be tasked with the implementation of all procedures needed to liquidate funds owned by the FJP, whether in kind or transferred, based on the court’s decision.
On August 9, the Higher Administrative Court decided to dissolve the FJP, liquidate its assets and transferring them to the national treasury.
The value of the FJP’s assets which will be subject to the decision are not yet known. However, the FJP’s lawyer Mahmoud Abou El-Enein said that all the headquarters of the party across the country were rented.
He added that the party has an account in an Egyptian bank but that it is difficult to give an accurate number of the funds due to the imprisonment of most party leaders.
