UNRWA to partake in Gaza donor conference

The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) will participate in the Cairo donor conference to rebuild Gaza, the organisation’s media advisor said.

Adnan Abu-Hasna said that the agency plans to participate in a conference centred on rebuilding the Gaza Strip. The meeting is scheduled to be held on Sunday in Cairo, Egypt, and will cover an entire architectural plan for rebuilding the Strip’s infrastructure.

In his press statement, Abu-Hasna emphasised that UNRWA is currently undergoing detailed surveys in order to encompass the full scope of the damage done to the Gaza Strip and that it intends to take into account every house that was destroyed during the latest Israeli military operations on the Gaza Strip, which is estimated to have destroyed around 80,000 Palestinian homes.

Abu-Hasna said that if the proper funding and housing materials were to become available, he has no doubt that UNRWA would be able to oversee the construction of 14,000 houses in two years at most.
