Jordanian King Abdullah II said yesterday that the solution of the Palestinian cause would lead to the resolution of all problems and clashes in the Middle East, the Anadolu Agency reported.

In a meeting with a delegation from the Council for Arab and International Relations headed by Mohamemd Al-Saqr, King Abdullah said: “The position of Jordan is stable regarding the necessity of solving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.”

According to the Jordanian news agency, the king hopes for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the two-state solution and the Arab Peace Initiative.

In addition to the Palestinian issue, the king also spoke about extremism in the region, calling for Arabic and Islamic efforts to face it.

He reiterated the importance of the religious institutions in the Arab and Islamic world to clarify the real image of Islam. “This needs an enlightened methodology based on the tolerable and moderate Islamic principles,” he said.

The Council for Arab and International Relations, which is meeting in Amman, is a non-profit organisation that includes former senior Arab officials. It was established in 2009 and is headed by the former Kuwaiti parliamentarian Mohammed Al-Saqr.

Anadolu reported Al-Saqr saying that the periodic meeting of the council would discuss regional issues including former Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora’s proposal to revive the Arab Peace Initiative proposed by the late Saudi King Abdullah in 2002.

He also said that the council is to discuss forming a delegation to visit the United States to discuss the conflicts in the region.
