The siege imposed by the Syrian regime on the Palestinian Yarmouk refugee camp has entered its 620th day today.
The Action Group for Palestinians of Syria said in a report yesterday that the camp’s hospitals and public clinics have stopped working due to an acute shortage of medical supplies and personnel with the exception of Palestine Hospital.
According to the report, the camp’s besieged residents have had no water for 190 days and been without electricity for 700 days.
The Group noted that the people of Sayyida Zainab camp complain about the difficult living conditions including high prices, the shortage of food supplies and fuel, weak financial resources and unemployment which forced many of them to leave Syria or work within popular committees affiliated with the Syrian regime.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian Writers Association concluded on Tuesday a cultural campaign launched in solidarity with the besieged Yarmouk refugee camp and the Gaza Strip through social networking sites.
The campaign concluded with an evening of poetry held at the Rafah crossing for poets who were unable to leave the enclave to participate in the “Prince of Poets” TV show in the United Arab Emirates despite obtaining a visa.
