Saudi rejects foreign intervention in Yemen without government's request

The Muslim Ummah (nation) is worried about the continued suffering of the Yemeni people as a result of the Houthi “coup”, which is backed by former Yemeni President Ali Abdallah Saleh and incited by regional powers that seek to impose their hegemony and increase their influence in the region through intervening in the internal affairs of other states, the Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir said yesterday.

Speaking at the extraordinary meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’s Council of Foreign Ministers, Al-Jubeir said Saudi Arabia and Yemen have strong, historic relations and they share long borders.

“The Kingdom and the GCC countries deal with the Yemeni crisis with a great responsibility in accordance with the principles of good neighbours, the Charter of the Arab League, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and the United Nations to contain the conflict and stop the bloodshed,” he added.

The minister stressed that his country advocates peace and supports all efforts exerted to end the Yemeni crisis in line with the GCC initiative, the outcomes of the national dialogue, and UN Security Council Resolution 2216. He also expressed his country’s rejection of any foreign intervention in Yemen without the request of its legitimate government.
