Jordan calls on Israel to respect immunity of its MPs on the Freedom Flotilla

June 30, 2015 at 10:11 am

Senior Jordanian officials yesterday called on “Israel to respect parliamentary immunity of Jordanian MPs on board the Freedom Flotilla III,” the Anadolu Agency reported.

According to the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the Jordanian government “stresses on the necessity to lift the siege on Gaza and respect the international humanitarian rules regarding dealing with humanitarian aid heading to Gaza.”

Both the Chairman of the Palestine Committee in the Jordanian Parliament, Yahya Al-Saud, and Member of Parliament Zakaria Al-Sheikh are on board the flotilla.

In a statement released on Sunday, 35 Jordanian MPs called on their government and the international community to exert their utmost efforts to protect those participating in the flotilla.

Speaker of the Jordanian Parliament Atef Tarawneh said the participants are “unarmed” and their mission is “purely humanitarian”.
