Two leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt have left the country, media sources revealed. The secretary of the Freedom and Justice Party in Giza Governorate, Helmi Al-Jazar, and Ali Battekh, a group leader are reported to have left Egypt during the past few days.
According to Al-Shorouk newspaper, Al-Jazzar has left Egypt through one of the airports, while Battekh left the country crossing the border into a neighbouring country.
The paper said Battekh left the country after the Egyptian security forces arrested several senior group members, including Mahmoud Ghozlan, Abdulrahman Al-Barr, Mohammed Saad Aliyua, Azim Sharkaoui and Mohamed Taha Wahdan.
Al-Jazar was released in August last year on a bail of 100,000 Egyptian pounds ($12,800) after nearly a year of imprisonment.
An Egyptian court acquitted Battekh on Sunday, along with a number of Muslim Brotherhood leaders in Giza including former MP Mahmoud Amer, of crimes committed during the Osim Police Station break-in following the dispersal of Rabaa Al-Adawiya and Ennahda sit-ins in summer 2013.
