The regime of Bashar Al-Assad has been cooperating with Daesh over oil, gas and power supplies, a Turkish intelligence source has told Anadolu news agency.
The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that relations between the two sides go beyond cooperation regarding the exchange of supplies; they cooperate by trading with oil.
Last week, it is claimed, Turkish intelligence intercepted a telephone call following airstrikes that damaged Daesh oil pipelines, electricity plants and transmission systems, and caused power shortages in areas under the control of Assad’s regime. A team of engineers was being dispatched by the regime to Deir Al-Zor and Mariye, regions under Daesh control, to make repairs.
Meanwhile, in a related move, the US administration blacklisted four individuals for facilitating the oil trade between Daesh and the Assad regime. In a statement, the US Treasury said that Syrian-Russian oil trader George Haswani was among the four.
