Prominent Palestinian academic and outspoken critic of the Palestinian Authority Dr Abdul-Sattar Qassim was released on bail yesterday, the Anadolu Agency reported.
The 62-year-old was arrested on Thursday from his house in Nablus, his wife Amal Al-Ahmad accused the PA security services of “kidnapping” him.
Al-Ahmad told Quds Press that the PA court released her husband on financial bail on condition that he attends the court hearings.
She said he was released because the judge classified the charges against him as “felonies”.
Qassim was arrested the day after he completed an interview with Al-Quds TV in which he criticised the Palestinian unity government and PA’s corruption. He spent five days in prison, during which, academics and officials, including MPs called for his immediate release.
