Israeli public calls for government to locate missing soldiers

February 29, 2016 at 12:36 pm

The families of two Israeli soldiers, who went missing during the 51-day Israeli offensive on Gaza in 2014, have started activities to put pressure on the government to locate them, Quds Press reported yesterday.

Israeli TV Channel 10 reported that more than 2,000 Israeli settlers took part in a march organised by the family of Oron Shaul in the Galilee.

Participants, the channel said, raised placards calling for the swift release of Shaul. They hoped to put pressure on the Israeli government, media reported.

Zahava, Shaul’s mother, called on the government to locate her son, stressing that “every Israeli house must know that her son left his home to defend the state and now he is in the hands of Hamas.”

She called on the Israeli government and defence minister to “work hard to free my son very fast” and not to let the family “wait too long.”

Meanwhile, Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported: “For the first time, parents of Hadar Golden visited the borders with Gaza on Sunday in an attempt to attract attention towards the issue of their son who is a Hamas prisoner.”
