MKs urge government to annex illegal West Bank settlement

June 1, 2016 at 12:30 pm

Right wing politicians in Israel are lobbying the government to annex the third largest illegal Israeli settlement of Ma’ale Adumim, six miles from Jerusalem, Quds Press reported yesterday.

A recent poll found that 77.9 per cent of Jewish Israelis think Israel should apply sovereignty over the settlement even if there is no agreement with Palestinians. Some 70.4 per cent said such a move would be worthwhile even if there is a significantly negative reaction from the international community.

The initiative is led by Member of the Knesset Yoav Kish of Likud and MK Bezalel Smotrich of the Jewish Home. Smotrich said the poll shows that “the people of Israel know what is good for them, and most of the nation on the right and left support applying Israeli sovereignty to Ma’aleh Adumim… Mr Prime Minister, you’ve run out of excuses; it’s time for sovereignty.”
