Total blackout in parts of Gaza

June 3, 2016 at 11:01 am

Blackouts were reported in Rafah and Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip early today as Egyptian powerlines serving the areas were out of order.

A complication at the Al-Arish power station caused the power to cut, an official at Gaza’s electricity company said.

The besieged enclave has continued to experience severe electricity shortages, exacerbating already dire living conditions.

Problems with the electricity supply to the Strip have led to residents only receiving six hours of electricity followed by 12 hours of darkness each day. Gaza’s electricity company announced in mid-May that the besieged enclave would gradually return to the usual electricity schedule of eight hours of electricity followed by eight hours of darkness.
